The year 2005 ended marked by one of the most significant cyber attacks in Portugal: PT (Portugal Telecom) was the target of an incident that affected several of the company’s computers, highlighting the vulnerability of large organizations to cyber risks. This episode became a landmark in the country’s corporate security, reinforcing the need for more robust data protection policies.
Throughout the year, worms, Trojans, and phishing campaigns continued to circulate, affecting both home users and corporate networks. This situation reinforces the importance of basic security practices: changing usernames/passwords on home routers (such as Thomson SpeedTouch), activating firewalls, keeping systems updated, and educating users not to open attachments or click on suspicious links.
This year thus ends as a year of awareness and learning, consolidating cyber security awareness in Portugal and preparing the ground for the challenges of the coming year.
