The first half of 2005 ended with a significant increase in cyber attacks in Portugal: there was an increase of approximately 50% compared to the same period of the previous year. Home computers and small business networks remain exposed to worms, Trojans, and phishing campaigns, reflecting the evolution of global threats.

In many homes and offices, home routers still use default passwords, and outdated systems leave doors open to intrusions.

It is crucial that users and administrators remain vigilant: changing router usernames/passwords, activating firewalls, and keeping antivirus software updated are simple steps that prevent a large portion of current threats.

The semester clearly shows that cyber security in Portugal is becoming a priority, and that global risks have a direct impact on any internet connection.
